I Write Tech incorporates technical training, technical skills, and life skills. The business name emerged in 2004 resulting from a website project management class assignment, the final core course for an Advanced Certificate in Technical and Scientific Writing from San Diego State University. It allows me to integrate skills from 28 years as an optician, teacher, public speaker, consultant and scientist, lacing creativity with structure and rules. These skills continually are cultivated by progressive computer technology, applying the information in my work and professional environment.

Writing is one aspect of being a Technical Communicator. Gathering research information from subject matter experts entails interviews, email correspondence or phone conferences with employees, managers, supervisors, and executive officers. The creative process parallels structure in importance when working with documents, pictures requiring reformatting, text editing, publication format restructuring and user-manual layout redesigning. The additional 300 hours of coursework in graphics and website technology from the New Horizons Computer Learning Center introduced me to programs such as Dreamweaver MX, Fireworks MX, Flash MX, FrameMaker 7.0, HTML, PageMaker7, PaintShop Pro, QuarkXpress 5.0 and Visio, while enhancing my skills in PowerPoint, Office Publisher, Excel, Outlook, FrontPage 2000/2002 and Photoshop. This website is intended to introduce you to some of my writing experience.

Technically, I have a strong analytical scientific background, enhanced with formal education with an advanced certificate in Scientific and Technical Writing from San Diego State University. Prior to the writing career, I fit/sold contact lenses and spectacles as a multi-certified Dispensing Optician for almost 30 years. In the 1990’s, my trademark topic ‘Optics for the Mathaphobic’ was published in the Journal of Ophthalmic Nursing and Technology; concurrently I was lecturing, providing workshops and certification training programs across the country for Vision Expo, JCCHAPO, Opticians Association of America, National Academy of Opticianry and private sponsors. My strength is in bridging communication through analysis and synthesis of information, then sharing the information verbally or textually.
